Description
Heinrich Esser
(1895-1985)
H. Esser belongs to the "lost generation". As a painter of an expressive realism, he called himself "Derharri" and exhibited in 1925 in the Berlin Secession. His works seem sombrely dark. First his art was declared "degenerate" by the Nazis, later in the GDR he was also suppressed, whereupon Esser fled to internal emigration.
