Gebhard Schwermer "Still life with bottles"
No. 32046
B 54,50cm x H 47cm
Description
Artist: Gebhard Schwermer
(September 27, 1930 in Arnsberg to September 19, 2007 in Konstanz)
Date: probably 1960/70s
Technique: Oil on hardboard, framed
In the 1960s, Schwermer primarily created abstract works. Very atypically for an artist, he later changed his style, but retained his color palette. This work probably shows a transition between the styles.
About the artist:
After studying at the Düsseldorf Art Academy, Schwermer taught at schools while tirelessly creating numerous artistic works.
Gebhard Schwermer was not interested in the dazzling surface, but in what lay hidden beneath it. The morbid and the uniqueness of everyday life were the focus of his attention and a constant source of inspiration for him. Whether still lifes, landscapes, architecture, backyards, city outskirts, or portraits, all of his works radiate a contemplative calm and tranquility.
(Press release from the district of Unna dated October 20, 2008)
Schwermer was not concerned with embellished idylls, but rather “with the expression of everyday life that we encounter everywhere, but which we hardly notice anymore.”
